The Abbeygate Cinema is an independent cinema in Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. It also has a small restaurant attached which does simple good food (4*). The restaurant also sells beer wine and soft drinks which can be taken into the cinema. Cake, sweets and popcorn are also sold. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The cinema shows a mixture of new release, children's, Art House and classic films, as well as live telecast of plays, opera and ballet shows from around the world. The cinema restaurant and toilets are all clean and pleasant. This is a wonderful cinema and Bury St Edmunds is both lucky and proud to have such a high standard cinema in its town.
Really enjoyed going to this wonderful little cinema. Reminds me of everything good about leaving the house to see a film; especially being able to enjoy a very grown up beverage instead of having to resort to soda.

Had to wait ages as the family in front used every voucher in the world while choosing half the sweet selection. Need to separate ticket queue from sweet queue. So prefer Abbeygate cinema.
Not a bad cinema but has a slightly odd problem of armrests that are too high in relation to the seat cushion (I'm and average height adult), and are just hard plastic making for a relatively uncomfortable couple of hours. Screen quality and sound systems are fine. Food and drink prices are subject of the usual gross profiteering that you get in most other theatres.

Lovely intimate little theatre. We could see everything on stage from our quirky little box. Good size bar for drinks, sweets and ice cream. Disabled access and toilet as you would expect. Parking at the rear ( at the brewery? ) was difficult to find, but we were lucky to get space just up the road. Very enjoyable evening.
Visited today with my friend for a tour. It was absolutely wonderful- the tour guide was very interesting, easy to listen to and had lots of history and excellent explanations to share in a really engaging way. From the time it was opened and the experiences of the theatre then through time to it’s different development stages, closures and even being a storage for a brewery! We had access to so many different areas- sat in the balcony, stood on the stage- even went underneath! Really fascinating and has left us wanting to learn much more about the theatre! Pity there wasn’t a handbook or small guide we could have bought. Thank you so much for a throughly enjoyable visit.

Stalls have surprisingly comfortable seating AFAIC. Good viewing angles from everywhere. Good Martin array sound system when we were there. Not sure if it's a house system but I'd guess that some guest sound techs don't seem to understand how it works. Sound has been both good and very poor for the various concerts we've attended.
A great local venue that hosts a range of acts and shows. Recently went there at the start of the Bury Festival 2018 to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo who were out of this world. Venue is easily accessible for the cattle market car park, about a 100m walk. There is also underground parking that brings you up right at the entrance of the apex, but this can get full quickly in busy periods. There are specialist bays as you would expect in the car park for disabled people, as well as charging points for electric vehicles. Getting back to the venue... the entrance is spacious and wheel chair friendly, as is what is traditionally known as the stalls. Seating is generous... I am a fairly big guy and these were some of the best I have sat in for seating and leg room. Drinks, sweets and ice cream is available in the foyer and they do allow you to take these in with you. Best to grab a program when you get in, as they do have some named acts perform there, but mot as many as I would like.. Venue probably seats about 500 - 600 tops...
